Ireland could possibly be my favorite place yet! I loved the people, spirit, and the beauty that Ireland has to offer. We went with Bus2Alps and stayed in a hostel bunk room with 16 people from TCU, which was so fun and quite the experience (coed bathrooms were not ideal though).
The first day we got there we did a Guinness tour which was filled with St. Patrick’s day festivities.
That night, everyone officially arrived in Ireland. It was basically all of TCU’s junior class because it was spring break back at TCU so people came to visit and all the different study abroad programs also came. It was one big frog family!
In Dublin, there are pubs on every corner and they are all so unique. We went to a few that Thursday night and one of them was called The Mezz. They had a live band playing covers of songs and we all just had the best time. Then we hit the hay for an early morning wake up call to head to the Cliffs of Moher.
To say the Cliffs of Moher
are beautiful is the biggest understatement ever spoken. Words and pictures will never describe how breathtaking these cliffs are. It was a three-hour bus drive from Dublin to the Cliffs but the drive was almost as beautiful as the view itself. There were endless rolling green hills with beautiful farmhouses. We
saw at least 100 Scottish cows and my roommate almost cried tears of joy because they are her favorite animal. I mean look how cute they are!
Once we got there, it was a 2 minute walk to the edge and I was in shock the entire time.
it was a perfectly clear day and it looked like it was straight out of a painting. It was almost eerie how close you could get to the edge and kind of made me nervous, but wow it was amazing. In this moment with all my friends and just taking in the beauty of this
view I could not have been more content!
After leaving the cliffs, we stopped in a town called Galway which our guide described as Ireland’s college town. It was such a unique town with character.
There were street dancers everywhere, cobble stone roads, and strung lights across every street. Not to mention the best fish and chips on earth. This day was a dream come true.
St. Patrick’s day was next and WOW
what a check of the bucket list to be in Dublin on this day. We woke up to the streets filled with people for the parade down our street. We watched floats go by and people dancing and singing. It was such a happy day!
After the parade we headed to Fitz Simmons bar in the Temple Bar area which is the famous street with all the pubs. It was three stories high and a rooftop bar which is where you could find the TCU squad. It was so much fun
being reunited with everyone and dancing and signing all day long dressed up in green!
After the fun had settled and morning came, there was snow covering the ground and a
wave of panic overtook everyone because we not only had class the next morning, but midterms and our flights could not be canceled! Luckily, the flight was just delayed and we made it back to florence at midnight before the midterms. Ireland was definitely worth the flu and questionable midterm grades.
