London was a breath of fresh air. Going somewhere where people speak english and not feeling like you stand out, is a nice feeling! Besides driving on the opposite side of the road, London felt like a cleaner version of New York.
Traveling there was a little bit more difficult because it is now out of the EU, so going through customs took a lot of time. If you are ever traveling through London, make sure you give yourself enough time because the customs line was a mile long. I completely forgot that Britain was recently removed from the EU. The Brexit (Britain Exit) was all the talk while we were there because it’s so new. I was a little bit confused about it, but people explained it to me like Texas succeeding from the union type deal. I don’t know all the nitty-gritty details, but apparently it is a really messy situation. So we shall see how that all pans out this year!
The first night we were there, we were all craving burgers because you don’t get that too often in Italy! We went to a place called Gourmet Burger Kitchen and it was so good! They even had sweet potato fries and shakes! It was a little taste of home.
The next day we started at Sketch Tea. This place is basically famous for it’s bathrooms.

rightfully so… they are the COOLEST bathrooms I have ever seen. Each egg (bathroom stall) has its own nature sound effects inside. It’s pretty crazy stuff.
But about the tea, it was great. Highly suggest the earl grey. We also found out that sketch tea was named sketch because the restaurant is constantly changing and never finished, like a sketch! Each room has a completely different theme and are used at different parts of the day and have different menus. You have to come here if you find yourself in London, even if you just go for the bathrooms.
The outdoor markets in London are super popular and they put any other markets to
shame! We went to the Borough Market and they had everything you could imagine.
The corn beef sandwiches were a hit and a London speciality. They also had a bunch of homemade dessert and bread tables. Those were dangerous, but wow they were good.
That night we went to my favorite spot at a rooftop bar called Elba, which has fun drinks and lights everywhere. They have good street food and picnic tables and then at happy hour there are great deals off their cocktails. It was fun to just go and hangout with friends before going out for the night. It has bright colors everywhere and reminds me of summer time at the beach type vibes.
Another popular place that people like to go out at night is called Ballie Ballerson. Make sure you get tickets in advanced because we tried to go, but couldn’t get in because we didn’t get tickets far enough in advance. But it’s basically a giant grown up ball pit! Sounds pretty fun to me.
And of course we hit the famous spots like the London Eye, Buckingham palace, and Big Ben. Those are all a must!
London has so much to see and it is a lot bigger than I imagined, but luckily there is the metro called the tube which is the greatest metro ever. I am not used to using a metro in Florence because we walk everywhere, but wow I was a huge fan of the tube. It was never too crowded and it cost about 15 pounds for the whole weekend to get anywhere we needed.
The last day we were there we went to go see Wicked
which was incredible! I had already seen wicked about 6 years ago, but this was an experience and I was able to appreciate it so much more now that I am older. The actors and actresses voices were unbelievable. This was definitely a highlight of my weekend!
For our last stop before our flight home we got cookies at Ben’s Cookies. Possibly one of the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever had! They are all over the city and super easy to just pop in and grab a cookie to go. The cookies were a perfect last taste of London and I definitely ended my weekend on a high note
London, I’ll be back.
